A thin coating of wax on each side, which prevents food from sticking to it and makes it moisture-resistant. It's waterproof, greaseproof and non-stick. Useful for food and wrapping. Do not use wax paper to line baking sheets or cake pan or put it in hot oven. Wax might melt at high temperatures.
